Baklava Recipe

Baklava

1 pound walnuts, chopped
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
16 ounces phyllo dough
1 cup butter

Directions for Baklava: Preheat oven to 350°. Toss nuts with cinnamon; set aside. Unroll phyllo dough, cover with damp cloth. Line bottom of 9x13-inch baking dish with 2 sheets of dough. Butter top of dough, and top with 2 more sheets. Repeat layers, buttering every second sheet, until 6 to 8 sheets thick. Top sheet should be buttered. Sprinkle 2 to 3 tablespoons nut mixture over dough. Cover with 6 to 8 sheets, buttering each 2nd sheet as done before. Cut into squares. Bake 50 minutes.

Sauce:

1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1⁄2 cup honey

Boil sugar and water until sugar is dissolved. Add vanilla and honey, simmer 20 minutes. Spoon sauce over warm baklava. Cool Baklava recipe before serving. If left uncovered baklava will become soggy.
