Benne Seed Cookies Recipe

Benne Seed Cookies

3/4 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 egg
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup benne or sesame seeds, toasted

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Cream butter and sugar. Beat in egg. Sift dry ingredients. Add to butter mixture along with vanilla; mix just until combined. Stir in benne seeds by hand. Drop batter by the teaspoon onto buttered cookie sheet leaving room for cookies to spread. Bake Benne Seed Cookies 12 to 15 minutes or until lightly browned. Makes about 4 dozen cookies.
