Sopapillas Recipe

Sopapillas

2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1 tablespoon shortening
Warm water

Mix together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Cut shortening into flour and mix, adding warm water to make medium soft dough. Put dough in a bowl, cover, and let stand 30 minutes. Roll dough on floured board until 1⁄8-inh thick. Cut into triangles and deep fry until golden brown. Makes 2 dozen.
