Southern Cornbread Recipe

Southern Cornbread

2½ cups cornmeal
1 cup self-rising flour
2 cups buttermilk
1 cup water
2 eggs
6 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon salt
1 cup shortening, melted or 2⁄3 cup oil

Combine all ingredients. Pour into a cornbread mold or muffin pan. Bake in a brick oven, smoker, or oven at 400° about 30 minutes.
