Traditional Eggnog Recipe

Traditional Eggnog for Christmas

 

12 eggs, separated
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 cups bourbon
6 cups milk
2 cups heavy cream
1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons ground nutmeg

 

Using a mixer, beat egg yolks with sugar until throughly mixed and sugar is no longer grainy (will be firm and the color of butter). With mixer running, slowly add bourbon a little at a time allowing it to fully incorporate each time. Refrigerate until cold (or up to 6 hours). About 30 minutes before serving, stir milk and nutmeg into chilled mixture. In a separate bowl, beat cream with a mixer on high speed until stiff peaks form. In another bowl, beat egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gently fold egg whites into original mixture. Gently fold in cream. Traditional Eggnog for Christmas serves: 8.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
This eggnog contains raw eggs, which have been known to contain harmful bacteria. When serving this recipe, take these precautions. Purchase fresh eggs without any signs of cracks, and wash the eggs before using them. Do not serve eggnog to people with compromised immune systems.
